When a building firm changes hands
Selling a general contractor business: the project archive
A sale or a wind-down is when a builder's archive is most likely to be lost: subscriptions lapse, servers are wiped and the binders go to storage. It can be licensed on its own, or travel with the firm to its buyer.
The archive in the sale
A buyer of the business takes the firm's copyright in its records only if the sale agreement assigns it in writing. Licensing the archive for training instead lets the firm, or its selling shareholders, keep ownership and grant a licence for that use alone.
Export before the software goes
Projul gives 30 days after termination to download the data, and Rhumbix ninety days to request it back. On our board 4 of 22 vendors give any window in days at all, so the export belongs in the sale timetable, not after it.
